Connections

"Are you saying you're Al Schreiner's daughter?"  That made me smile.  "Yes, I am" I replied.

This conversation took place today at my weekly craft club.  There are six people, including myself and the instructor who meet once a week to be crafty.  When I first joined, a conversation came up about "Rib Lake" and "Medford" "WI" which is where my parents came from. "Kathy" mentioned she had relatives in "Rib Lake".  But, we were unable to make any direct connections.

Two members mentioned "Manitowoc" which I related to because Pete and I lived there for a short time, and in fact our oldest child was born there - but our stay was only about 1 1/2 years.  No direct connection again.

But today!!!!  "Donna" mentioned her and her husband were square dancers. I asked her how much they were into it. Donna said while no longer active, she and her husband did a lot of square dancing in the past and belonged to the "C & H" group.  I mentioned my parents were also very active square dancers, but couldn't recall the name of their group....after a short while, we realized she was well aware of: Al, my dad, Harriet, my mother, and Vera, and my dad's second wife.  She said "Are you saying you're Al Schreiner's daughter?"  "Yes, I am" I replied.

This is especially interesting, because when I met "Donna" something about her was very familiar.  I couldn't put my finger on it - perhaps she was part of a bowling league I once belonged to or maybe I worked with her???

Now that I know about the square dance connection - I bet we've met before - she may have attended my wedding - going on 43 years ago!  I know a lot of my parent's square dancing friends attended.

MORE TO COME: This is not yet ended... the "C & H" group she mentioned refers to "Cutler Hammer".  Pete's dad and his older brother retired from Cutler Hammer so perhaps there is another connection!

Can't wait for the next craft club!

I can't recall...but that's OK

This has been coming on awhile.  I can't recall how long ago, but perhaps awhile. If it isn't written down somewhere I'll likely not remember. I rely on habits like checking email; Facebook; twitter & Flickr.
Reminders on my cell phone work good because there is a way to make it make a noise.  Unfortunately I don't always remember to turn the sound up so I guess it doesn't work as well as I think it will.  I remind myself to water a plant twice a week on my phone.  So far the plant is alive!  Written reminders on the calendar next to the kitchen telephone work well. Pete does look at those and reminds me about stuff but of course I need to remember to write in there in the first place. Sometimes we'll argue about what I've written down - isn't that funny! I rely on Facebook and Twitter to remember myself who my friends are. That's a bit sad because I know I have friends who are not on Facebook or Twitter.  Most obvious to my recall issue, is my interest in photography.  I take photographs every day and post them on Flicker. Hopefully that is not annoying you. That is my reminder of what I've done, or where I've been. If I've skipped a few days on Flicker, or if I've not shown up or contacted you...please don't assume I've forgotten you - well - maybe I have, but it's not because I want to forget you. I'm likely to remember you 20 years from now, just not today.

Let's see, yesterday I had ? for breakfast; left-over chili for lunch; ? for dinner.  Today I had oatmeal for breakfast, ? for lunch and meatloaf for dinner......I think I'm doing good!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today I've invited the family for a build-your-own Reuben dinner. Not all of the family enjoys corned beef, but for those that do I'm all set! I found my recipes via Cook's County.

The first recipe is for just the corned beef.  I don't bother with the rest because I only want the meat for sandwiches. This is made a day ahead which makes it much easier to slice.
Corned-Beef & Cabbage

This is a great recipe for homemade dressing and how to prepare the sauerkraut.

Getting hungry just blogging about dinner.  Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Check Box

There are three check boxes below.  I've noticed that rarely does anyone bother to check one which makes me believe that this blog is a waste of time.  If you agree this is a waste of time, don't check a box.  Thank you for listening.

A lull right now

Nothing much to blog about recently.  Still going about day-to-day activities waiting for spring to arrive. It must be getting close, because I find myself turning down the car heater and occasionally opening the windows to cool off.  The sun's angle has something to do with that.  The recent snow storms are still visible with high banks and still very white snow but that's likely to change soon. Also noticing different varieties of birds at the feeder which is a sign of spring.  And of course pot holes and orange barrels are popping up.

Considering a trip, but can't decide where to go.  Road trips are enjoyable, if they weren't so boring to get there and back.  Air travel is so restrictive and stressful I don't think it is worth the hassle. Perhaps a trip by train is worth considering.  Maybe to Canada?  Canadian Train Vacations
